If you want to put a system preinstalled with Linux, Apache, Mysql and PHP here is a setup i recommend.
Basically all you need to do is download free vmware player and the following appliance. I am using this as a test enviro for some small php and mysql projects i am doing.

use sudo to execute command as root
use 'sudo su' to become root
